To Be in Concert is a brand new, interactive performance installation which reimagines the traditional concert experience by placing the performers and audience members in collaboration with each other. By controlling sounds and projected visualizers within the performance space via interactive technology stations, the audience can contribute to and inform the dance and music created by the performers. Through this exchange between audiences and performers, participants learn “to be in concert” with one another to create the full performance experience. Sponsored by FastForward U's Performance Award and Peabody’s Dean's Development Grant, this premier showing of "To Be in Concert" took place at FastForward U on April 11th, 2022.

Sophia Freed - Violin
Aidan Deighan - Viola
Jiacheng Li - Piano
This work was commissioned for dance and performed in February 2019 by Roanoke Ballet Theatre and 2 Muses Productions. This rendition was recorded in March 2021.
Program Note: MacBeth is based off the Shakespeare play with the same name and portrays a scene where MacBeth returns home after fighting under King Duncan. Upon his return, he tells his wife, Layd MacBeth, of three witches he met while away at war who prophesied he would become king. Upon hearing this, Lady MacBeth encourages her husband to act on this prophesy and murder the king to take his throne. This music goes through the complex emotional journey of MacBeth's joyous reunion with his wife after the war to their heated discussion of whether or not to murder the king who has bestowed much honor upon MacBeth to MacBeth resolving to commit the terrible act.
